The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Team is committed to CESA’s strategic objectives for access, equity and excellence by promoting cultural proficiency and awareness and advancing the ACARA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures Cross Curriculum priority.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Team provides professional learning for school leaders, teachers, parents and educational staff to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to gain access to their educational entitlements by:

• Encouraging the enrolment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,
• Developing welcoming and inclusive environments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,
• Improving and making equitable, educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students,
• Targeting at risk and gifted students and developing programs which scaffold for success both in school and in preparation of post school pathways,
• Liaising with tertiary educational institutions, apprenticeships, training and employment providers,
• Developing inclusive curriculum materials, resources and inquiry projects where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives are evident across all learning, areas and where all students develop an understanding of and respect for Indigenous cultures, contemporary and traditional,
• Developing the cultural proficiency of leaders and educators,
• Promoting the Dare to Lead school snapshot tool,
• Fostering Reconciliation activities and Reconciliation Action Plans at the school level,
• Supporting the development design and review of Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) that are underpinned by inclusive systems and pedagogies and cross disciplinary approaches,
• Constructing and reviewing Strategic plans and Partnership Agreements with leadership teams,
• Offering personalized support and programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Focus teachers,
• Mentoring aspiring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders and teachers.
