‘DEVELOPING RESPECTFUL SERVICE RESPONSES IN WORKING WITH ABORIGINAL PEOPLE’
This workshop will focus on identifying and exploring racism. Sharon Gollan from Cultural Respect Training and Consultancy will lead the workshop.
Areas to be covered include:
• Protocols, language and meaning; Hopes and expectations
• Naming and understanding racism: Definitions and dimensions
• Identifying dominant culture practices and barriers to acknowledging racism
• Recognising, understanding and responding to institutional racism
• Understanding ourselves: Exploring attitudes and values that perpetuate dominance
• Developing strategies for respectful work with Aboriginal Australians
The PD session references the following AITSL Australian Professional standards for Teachers
Standard 1 – Know students and how they learn
Standard 2 – Know the content and how to teach it
Standard 6 – Engage in professional learning
Standard 7 – Engage professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community
Duration – 7 hours
