FOCUS TEACHER PROGRAM 2015:
LEADERSHIP & LEARNING
DAY 2: Beyond the Apology in CESA - 21st Century Reconciliation: Cultural Safety & Responsiveness
COURSE INFORMATION
This workshop is intended for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Focus Teachers and school leaders with responsibility for ATSI education.
We have 3 guest facilitators attending Day 2 of the ATSI Education Focus Teacher Program:
- Jenni Caruso is a PhD candidate and lecturer in the School of History and Politics at the University of Adelaide. Jenni is an Eastern Aranda woman and her research focuses on the impact of historiographical anthropological and church influences relating to the removal of 'half-caste' Aboriginal children from their families from the 1920's through to the mid 1950's and is centred on her own life journey.
- Jonathan Lindsay-Tjapaltjarri Hermawan will continue to deepen our understanding into what it means to be a 'cultural custodian' through the perspective of transformational leadership. He will lead us to consider how we are able to transform catholic educational sites to be experienced as culturally safe and liberating.
- Simone Ulalka Tur is a Senior Lecturer and Director of Yunggorendi First Nations Centre at Flinders University. Simone has published in the area of Indigenous Education and Indigenous Knowledges. Simone is from the Antikirinya/Yankunytjatjara community north-west of South Australia.
