Description
This workshop is ideally recommended for teachers familiar with the ‘Conti method’ that have attended previous professional development and understand and use EPI, MARSEARS framework and sequencing, sentence builders, etc.
Key themes include:
- Meaningful play in the Languages classroom - purposeful deployment of ludic activities which foster engagement and are rooted in a clear pedagogic rationale
- The role of grammar in the language curriculum at different levels of proficiency
- The amount and type of grammar structures that can realistically be taught at different levels
- How grammar structures can be sequenced
- How to teach grammar across the macro skills
- How to assess grammar and provide feedback
This workshop will draw on Cognitive Load Theory and Applied Linguistics research arguing that an intelligent mix of explicit and implicit instruction is the most effective alternative to the traditional PPP (presentation, practice, production) approach.
In addition, Gianfranco will outline an exemplar instructional sequence using a wide range of engaging activities which:
- aid motivation for students of all abilities
- build on the four skills required for success in Languages
