Modules 3 -13

Module 10 is the initial module undertaken by participants registering for any of the Modules 3-13 of the Professional Standards for Teachers of Languages as recommended by the writers of this professional development program.

Date: Monday 26th March 2012

Time:
 9.00am – 3.30pm

Venue: Room 7, Catholic Education Conference Centre, 116 George Street, Thebarton

Module 10 - Understanding the relationship of the intracultural with the intercultural
 engage with ways of self-reflecting on how the intra-cultural dimension in your enculturation (i.e. your upbringing and education) has implications for your teaching
• begin to apply this engagement in your intercultural teaching and learning practice

Module 3 - Learning, Learners and life worlds
• discuss current understandings of the process of learning
• consider the diversity of students as young people and as learners
• examine possible ways of working with this diversity through pedagogy
• critically discuss examples of various types of scaffolding for learning

Funding: TRT support will be available for teachers in  Catholic Schools

Catering: Morning tea and lunch will be provided

  • Modules 1 and 2 of the Professional Standards Project are a pre-requisite for Modules 3 - 13. Applicants must have completed them with CESA/AISSA (‘Part A’) or the National Professional Standards Project (‘Stream A’).
  • Modules 1 and 2 were offered by CESA/AISSA on 7 March 2011 and 16th March 2012.
  • Teachers do not have to register for all modules.
  • Modules can be completed in any order and combination.
  • Participants who wish to complete all modules are encouraged to do so over two years (2011-2012).
  • A minimum number of participants will be required for each workshop. In the event that this number is not reached, applicants will be contacted individually.
  • All sessions are full day sessions (9.00am - 3.30pm).

    Target group

    These modules are suitable for teachers of all languages and year levels at any stage of their career.

    Required materials to be brought to each chosen module:
  • a copy of Professional standards for accomplished teaching of languages and culture, which can be downloaded from http://pspl.afmlta.asn.au/modules.html
  • writing materials
  • ‘Teaching and Learning Languages: A Guide’ by Angela Scarino and Anthony J Liddicoat (each school in Australia received a copy of this book in 2010)
  • additional requirements will be notified by email to registered participants

    Registration
    Catholic school teachers should register their interest for each module via the CESA website under the ‘Courses & Events’ section CESA Registration Centre. Registrants are requested to indicate Year level and language/s taught under ‘Job Title’.
