Description
CESA is now offering an in-depth, full year course that gives continuity and depth to the one-day Introduction to CLIL that was offered in 2021.
Following the restrictions that had to be put in place regarding the provision of Professional learning to teachers and other school leaders in CESA schools in Term 1, 2022, we now have new dates for the CLIL (Content and Languages Integrated Learning) course to be offered for the rest of the year.
Session 1: Thursday 9 June 2022 (CEO Conference Centre Room 7)
Session 2: Thursday 16 June 2022 (CEO Boardroom)
Session 3: Thursday 23 June 2022 (CEO Conference Centre Room 8)
Session 4: Thursday 29 September 2022 (CEO Conference Centre Room 6)
Project Summary
- This project proposes an evidence-based professional learning course that provides participants with a firm grounding in the pedagogical principles and practice of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
- Participants will learn how to plan for, teach, assess and report in a CLIL program, considering the specific requirements and approach that integrates languages and other subject / areas of learning (Religious Education in the first instance)
- This Professional Learning aims at deepening participants’ understanding of the relationship between language, concepts, cognition and communication and to develop teachers’ capacity to scaffold and support their students’ learning through a second language.
The content for the 4 days of the course is as follows:
Day 1: Planning CLIL learning: designing units of work and learning experiences
Day 2: Pedagogies for CLIL learning
Day 3: Assessing CLIL learning
Day 4: Debriefing and review
It is intended that by the end of the course, participants would have been provided with:
- sound grounding in the pedagogical principles and practices of CLIL: learning design, pedagogies, assessment and reporting)
- opportunities for school-based planning, teaching and assessing with a CLIL approach
- an understanding of the school specific requirements relating to the implementation of an approach that integrates languages and areas of learning of interest to each school.
The full year course, consisting of 4 days professional learning, will develop knowledge and understanding of CLIL and conceptualise how schools may implement a CLIL based program / units of work. It is an in-depth look at CLIL as a pedagogically sound and innovative way to complement the learning of languages and cultures, integrated with another subject / area of learning.
