(There are limited places so we encourage you to register soon)
COURSE FOCUS
Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) and the South Australian Association for Teachers of Italian (SAATI) invite you to register and attend a Professional Learning Day facilitated by Dr Gianfranco Conti.
The learning and teaching of languages in our schools often depends on the amount and quality of time students have with teachers. Being aware of the cognitive challenges that students face when learning languages and cultures, teachers must be aware of and teach a variety of vocabulary, structures and skills.
Dr Gianfranco Conti will address these challenges through practical, classroom-based contemporary strategies relevant for teachers of ALL languages.
The facilitator will
· provide a concise research-based account of how the human brain processes, retains and retrieves L2 vocabulary and grammar. In the second (longer) section, he will proceed to suggest effective ways to maximize teaching and learning time by (a) embedding ILRs (Implicit Learning Routines); (b) teaching high-surrender-value functional chunks and (c) ‘smart’ recycling.
· present and demonstrate his L.A.M. (listening as modelling) approach, a methodology which purports to provide extensive practice in the bottom-up micro-skills essential to effective listening comprehension: Decoding, Lexical Retrieval and Parsing Skills.
