Description
‘Language teaching is best when (1) we forget being the talented/passionate linguists we are and wear the hat of the average adolescent millennial learner with their interests, motivation and finite cognitive resources and (2) asks ourselves: why should they buy into this?’ – Dr Conti
Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) and the South Australian Association for Teachers of Italian (SAATI) are pleased to welcome back Dr Gianfranco Conti, as he delivers a workshop titled 'Designing the EPI Curriculum.' This workshop is recommended for ‘experienced users’ of the 'Conti method' who have attended previous professional development with Gianfranco and understand and currently implement and use EPI, MARSEARS framework and sequencing, sentence builders, narrow reading texts, modelling as listening, etc.
Topics include:
- Elements of Extensive Processing Instruction(EPI).
- Key components of EPI curriculum design.
- The principles underpinning effective short-, medium- and long-term planning.
- The procedures involved in design, implementation, and evaluation of a course.
- Acquisition-enhancing strategies, for example, recycling, interleaving, universals, fluency training and their application to curriculum design.
- The role of assessment as a means to advance learning and how to embed it in the curriculum in SA context.
Practical activities, examples, techniques and strategies will be explored, that teachers can take back to the classroom to implement. Participation in this workshop may count towards EPI teacher accreditation.
