We would like to advise you of this professional learning opportunity for early years (R-2) teachers to examine how the ‘Engaging Young Children in Number and Measurement’ resource can inform teaching and learning in mathematics. This resource was developed to assist teachers to understand and engage more deeply with the mathematical thinking of young children and was launched in term three of 2016.

Through this workshop, teachers will explore the theory, concepts and strategies that support children to develop the essential knowledge, skills and understandings in early number and how this affects the development of measurement concepts. Teachers will also revisit the ‘Early Years Numeracy Observation Assessment’ as a tool for collecting data on children’s thinking and understanding.

TRT funding is available for those schools eligible.

Several copies of the ‘Engaging Young Children in Number and Measurement’ resource were distributed to Catholic primary schools late last year. Further copies of this book are available for purchase here. Teachers wishing to purchase individual copies are also welcome to register their interest.
