The Catholic Education Office Numeracy Team has developed a resource titled Engaging Young Children in Number and Measurement: Developing Mathematical Understandings, to assist educators teaching mathematics, to understand and engage more deeply with the mathematical thinking of young children.

The frameworks and analysis of children’s thinking documented in this book are based on research undertaken by teachers in their classroom.

This book provides a theoretical and reflective component, enabling educators to align their teaching to theories of learning in mathematics and the Australian Curriculum in the early years.

At the end of each section, a framework for developing mathematical understandings is suggested. The framework will support educators to recognise and map the mathematical thinking of young children. The suggested everyday learning tasks will enable children to further explore their thinking using activities that are engaging and connected to real-life situations.

This book has been provided to all Catholic schools; however, if you wish to purchase your own copy/copies, please register your interest on this site.

Cost per book is $40.00 (Including GST).
