Numeracy

The Catholic Education SA Numeracy Team provides support to schools through a range of professional learning models including projects, networks and school based projects and networks. All professional learning is grounded in contemporary learning theories with research forming the basis of the team’s work with teachers and schools.

Objectives for Professional Learning

The professional learning aims to support teachers to:

  • Deepen their mathematical understanding.
  • Reflect on current teaching and learning strategies in mathematics education, as well as in broader contexts, in order to support and challenge students’ mathematical/numeracy development.
  • Explore contemporary research, trends and national initiatives.
  • Develop and implement rich mathematical/numeracy programmes.
  • Explore and implement the Australian Curriculum.
  • Develop ICT skills in mathematics.

Professional learning models

Projects

These projects provide an action research framework to assist teachers to implement effective teaching and learning strategies that will support all students towards successful mathematical and numeracy outcomes.
  • Networks to support Primary and Secondary teachers who hold leadership roles in mathematics and/or numeracy.
  • Mathematics course of 1 ½ years for teachers to expand their personal mathematical knowledge.
  • Workshops to help school leaders in the implementation of the Australian Curriculum.
