COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Language and Literacy Levels across the Australian Curriculum: EALD students has been developed by DECD with support from CESA to update and align the SACSA Scope and Scales with Australian Curriculum subjects.

The Language and Literacy Levels is the tool used by EAL teachers to assess and plan for the language and literacy development of EAL students. They provide detailed information about students' written and oral language development which can be used for assessment and programming purposes for all students.

INTENDED FOR:
This workshop is suitable for primary and secondary teachers who wish to learn how to use the Levels to assess oral and written language. Use of the Language and Literacy Levels to assess EAL student language proficiency is a requirement for the 2014 CESA EAL data collection process. Schools who intend to submit this data to CESA must have a least one trained staff member in their school.

PROGRAM OUTLINE:
Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop or tablet.
Day 1 and 2

  • An introduction to the Language and Literacy Levels and links to the Australian Curriculum
  • Learn about the functional model of language at text, sentence and word levels
  • Use the levels to assess student writing and identify teaching and learning needs

Cost: no workshop fee

Catering: morning tea and lunch will be  provided
