Expression of Interest:
Three Year Numeracy Project:
Primary Years 3-6
CESA Numeracy Projects aim to develop a deeper pedagogical and conceptual understanding in the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Numeracy. These projects run for three years and include exploring the three strands of the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics, the General Capabilities and the Cross Curriculum Priorities.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Teachers will:
- develop a shared understanding of how students construct mathematical knowledge and develop numeracy;
- reflect and use more effective pedagogies, including inquiry approaches and use data to inform learning;
- plan and implement learning programs that support the development of students’ mathematics and numeracy;
- explore and use digital technologies in learning mathematics and in developing numeracy;
- explore current literature and research relating to mathematics education, numeracy and education in general;
- use action research and case study to reflect on students’ learning and their own teaching practices.
Mathematical content for 2014
Australian Curriculum: Mathematics Statistics and Probability. The exploration of this strand will be integrated with Number & Algebra and Measurement & Geometry and other curriculum areas. There will be a focus on the cross-curriculum priority of Sustainability
Statistics
Developing statistical reasoning
- Formulating questions
- Collecting and organising data
- Representing data
- Analysing and interpreting data
Probability
Developing probabilistic reasoning
- Possible outcomes
- Identifying likelihood
- Probability in everyday events
- Describing probabilities using number
