Language for Writing Successfully in Secondary School

This 3 module course focuses on key aspects of language that are required for writing specific subject discipline texts in secondary school. It uses the ACARA Literacy Capability and the Language and Literacy Levels (11-14) as organizational frameworks to unpack the grammar knowledge required to be a successful writer.
Each workshop session will include:
Aspects of grammar knowledge covered:Noun groups, Nominalisation, Foregrounding, passive voice, connecting ideas through combining clauses and language for evaluating.
Session Times and Dates: All sessions 1.00pm - 4.30pmTuesday 29 October 2013 - Room 7 Wednesday 06 November 2013 - Room 6 Tuesday 12 November 2013 - Room 7
Between module activities and reading reflections (optional component)Participants who would like to gain further credit points can elect to complete follow up activities in their classroom and provide written reflections on academic readings between each workshop. This Professional Learning session references the following AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teachers: Standards 6: Engage in professional learning Duration: 10.5 hours in total
Certificate:On completion of the course, participants will be issued a certificate indicating modules attended and acknowledgement of completed follow up activities/reading reflections.
