'Contemporary Approaches to Teaching Literacy' is a core component for the Catholic Education SA Certificate in Teaching Literacy.

To complete the certificate, teachers need to participate in this course.

This online 3 (or 6) point course explores fundamental issues in literacy by considering how theory meets practice in the classroom.  The program is intended to provide participants with the basis for a more developed and informed consideration of various aspects of literacy in modern times.  It encourages critical reflection and debate around questions such as:

  • What theories inform what I teach and how I teach?
  • What are the wider issues around literacy?
  • What kinds of literacies will my students need in these "new times"?
  • What does the National Curriculum say about teaching Literacy and English?
  • What do I need to consider to plan for contemporary literacy teaching and learning?

Course structure:  This online course requires teachers to post comments in response to online readings and video links over a ten week period.

Estimated time:  Approximately ten hours.

When:  The online course will be open to teachers from the 5th August to 12th October 2013.

Registration:  Closes Friday, 2nd August 2013 - unless negotiated with Julia Johnson at: julia.johnson@cesa.catholic.edu.au
