The Early Years Numeracy Observation Assessment resource (book and accompanying DVD) is now published and ready for use in schools. The Numeracy Team is therefore offering professional learning for teachers and school leaders on how to effectively use this tool to gather data on students’ learning in numeracy.

Catholic Education SA invites expressions of interest from teachers and school leaders who wish to participate in a one day workshop on the “Early Years Numeracy Observation Assessment”.  It is anticipated that the teachers and school leaders who attend this workshop will lead other teachers in their schools using a “Train the Trainer” model.

The workshop will address:

  • the importance of early number understanding
  • the different components of the Early Years Numeracy Observation  Assessment, for example: counting strategies, word problems etc.
  • how to carry out the observation assessment
  • how this assessment is used to collect, analyse and interpret students’ data to inform learning in numeracy

At the end of the workshop participants will have access to the professional learning power point which they could then use to lead others’ learning at their school.

Three one day workshops are scheduled for schools in the metropolitan area.  Schools can register for one of the three workshops, the dates of which are as follows:

Friday 9 August or Thursday 15 August or Friday 23 August.

Registration closes on Friday 26 July 2013.

The Thebarton Community Centre venue is located on the corner of South Road and Ashwin Parade, Torrensville (car park entrance is via South Road).

The Numeracy team is in the process of negotiating suitable dates and venues with country schools.
