Trauma in Schools

Increasingly, Catholic schools are enrolling children who are Guardians of the Minister (GOM). Often these children present with complex behaviour and learning needs. Similarly, increasing numbers of children who have experienced a traumatic childhood experience are entering our System. For these Children trauma can become the lens through which the child views the world around them.
This presentation will examine how attacment-based trauma affects children. It will:
1. Explain the physiology of attachment to typical brain development
2. Describe various disruptions to attachment
3. Explain the connection between attachment and trauma
4. Identify childhood behaviour consistent with diordered attachment/trauma
