Intended Audience

Teachers of EALD learners in Years 2 to 12

(The focus will be on written language across all curriculum areas)

Notes:

• Minimum 15 registrations required for the workshop to proceed
• For non-CESA schools: $75 registration fee (invoiced after the event)

Workshop Overview

The Learning English: Achievement and Proficiency (LEAP) Levels tool are used to

• formatively assess EALD students’ English proficiency
• identify what learners can do, determine English language learning goals, and monitor progress over time
• Inform CESA EALD funding to schools

Teachers conducting EALD assessments must have completed relevant professional learning in using the LEAP Levels.

Participants who have previously attended LEAP workshops are welcome to join as a refresher.

Workshop Focus (2 Days)

Participants will:

• Understand the language aspects and threads of the LEAP Levels 
• Understand how language patterns create meaning in texts
• Identify key language aspects in student writing
• Confidently make or moderate LEAP Levels judgements

Preparatory work for Day 1 will be provided in advance.

Attendance at both days is required as the content learning is cumulative. 

Certificates of completion will only be issued for full attendance.
