Description:

The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) has developed the School Writing Instruction Framework (SWIF) to support school leaders and teachers in delivering evidence-based writing instruction across all subject areas in middle to upper primary and secondary schooling. 

This five-session professional learning series is designed for leaders and teachers with responsibility for teaching and leading writing. Participants will be led through AERO’s SWIF resources in a structured and purposeful sequence, strengthening their understanding of effective writing pedagogy and building confidence to embed high-quality writing instruction across subject areas. 

Leaders and teachers with responsibility for writing instruction are invited to register for this professional learning in 2026. 

Sessions

• Session 1, Monday 16 February: Introduction to AERO's writing instruction model

• Session 2, Monday 16 March: Understanding writing needs in your school
• Session 3, Monday 11 May: Leading writing instruction in your school
• Session 4, Monday 1 June: Embedding effective writing assessment practices
• Session 5, Monday 20 July: Apply learning from Sessions 1- 4 to analyse 2026 NAPLAN writing results, identify school-wide writing needs, and plan targeted, system-wide writing instruction.
