This is to inform Principals and teachers of the continuation of the network focussing to support the development of rich numeracy opportunities. The importance of numeracy is recognised in the Australian Curriculum as a General Capability and as a compulsory requirement of SACE. It is important that all educators understand their responsibility to continue to build the numeracy skills of all students.

Generally the network is of interest to teachers promoting numeracy within a school however, the professional learning in the Term 1 Network will also target Principals and school leaders. It will focus on illustrating numeracy opportunities within your school, connections with the Australian Curriculum and planning for a whole school approach. Schools are encouraged to send more than one representative to the first session.

The broad aims for the Numeracy across all Learning Areas Network for 2013 are to:

  • build the capacity of those involved in the network in terms of their understanding numeracy and the development of effective teaching and learning strategies in all learning areas
  • consider contemporary approaches to leading change within a school community and within numeracy
  • provide a forum to discuss, share and exchange strategies related to professional learning and the teaching and learning of numeracy

All Network meetings will be held in Room 8 from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm in the Conference Centre at 116 George Street, Thebarton.
