Professional Learning Session for
Regional Catholic Schools

Catholic Education SA Aboriginal Education Team

in the Classroom'

FOCUS OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SESSION:

  • Teachers/non-teaching staff will learn best practice methods and practical tips on ways to integrate First Nations art, cultures and histories in daily learning environments in a culturally appropriate and meaningful way. This workshop is recommended for all educators. 
  • Participants will be introduced to a range of resources as well as the publication 'Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art in the Classroom'. These strategies and resources have been developed by the Art Gallery of South Australia in collaboration with individual Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, as their voice is critical to the pedagogic aims of the program. 

INTENDED FOR:

This professional learning opportunity is open to all teaching and non-teaching staff in Catholic schools in South Australia, with a particular interest for:

  • Primary and/or Secondary Teaching staff
  • Aboriginal Education Focus Teachers
  • Art Faculty Coordinators/Teachers
  • Education Support Officers.

FACILITATOR:

  • Kylie Neagle, Education Manager, Art Gallery of South Australia

Please Note: Kylie does not teach First Nations art techniques or processes - nor does she cover protocols.

AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teachers include:

  • Standard 1: Know students and how they learn (focus area 1.4)
  • Standard 2: Know the content and how to teach it (focus area 2.4)
  • Standard 6: Engage in professional learning (focus area 6.2)

REQUIREMENT:

  • All materials will be provided by the Facilitator.
  • Participants are asked to report to the School Reception office on arrival.

COST: There is no cost associated with this session.
