Day 1: Building Strong Foundations – Understanding Early Childhood Development

This evidence-based session explores key developmental milestones and pedagogical approaches to support children from birth to eight years. Topics include schema theory, language acquisition, and early childhood development, with a focus on research-backed strategies that nurture positive dispositions for learning. Educators will examine the role of routines, transitions, and ‘slow pedagogy,’ while making connections to the AEDC domains of development.

In this session we explore:

  • Developmental Environments
  • Brain Architecture
  • Executive Function
  • Five foundational domains of development – a deep dive into each [physical health and wellbeing, social competence, emotional maturity, language and cognitive skills (school-based), communication skills and general knowledge.]
