Transitioning to life after school is an exciting time for young people, with opportunities to explore different pathways that align with personal interests, strengths and aspirations. Successful post-school transitions have positive impact and long-term benefits on students with disability across their life. Everyone has the right to pursue a life of choice and may require a range of supports to assist them to meet their life goals.
There are a range of future pathways for young people to consider and prepare for during their secondary school years.
Employment options such as:
- volunteering
- open and supported employment
Further education and training options such as:
- university
- vocational education and training (VET)
- apprenticeships and traineeships
- adult community education
- community participation and engagement
This professional learning workshop for educators will examine the ways in which schools can assist students with disability to develop their skills, explore their interests, understand their abilities, and actively explore and plan for their transition from school.
The day will include an overview of contemporary resources and relevant programs available to schools and to students during their secondary school years. Post-school pathway programs and agencies providing pathway supports for students with disability will also be a feature of this professional learning day.
Morning tea and lunch will be provided.
