Intended Audience
Primary and Secondary Teachers
who will be making assessment judgements about EALD learners' achievement
and proficiency levels for the CESA EALD data collection
Description
(MANDATORY Component)
Each school that will be submitting EALD data must have a representative who participates in the Assessment Moderation process.
The purposes of the Moderation Activities are:
- to provide assurance of consistency and reliability of teacher judgement of EALD, achievement and proficiency levels; it also provides descriptive feedback for participants, and
- to provide dedicated time and space for collaborative or focused assessment.
How the Moderation Process Will Work:
- Collaborative clarifying assessment task for teachers with less than 2 year’s experience.
- Inter-assessor reliability check - all participants, both onsite and remote participants.
- Detailed procedural information will be provided to participants closer to the time.
Options for Participation Mode
You may participate onsite at the CEO (encouraged) or remotely (if you are unable to participate onsite), but teachers are only required to register for ONE option.
ONSITE physical attendance at the CEO - the preferred and recommended option.
- Face to face physical attendance at the Catholic Education Office on Thursday and/or Friday, 8.45 am – 3.30 pm.
- This provides a collaborative or silent working space to focus on assessing your writing (or oral language) samples
.
REMOTE (from school)
- The remote option allows for you to be involved in Moderation activities (comparing assessments with your paired assessor) whilst remaining at your school. You are encouraged to facilitate assessment moderation sessions with your school-based colleagues.
- Your participation time is flexible, as long as you meet each point in the timeline.
You will utilise the EAL Network Teams platform over the course of the moderation week to upload and compare language evidence.
