(Week 4, Term 2)
from 9.00am - 3.30pm

Venue: Conference Centre Rooms 7 and 8,

116 George Street, Thebarton.

FOCUS OF PROFESSIONAL NETWORK MEETING:

  • The Network Day will start with a Welcome to Country outside of the Conference Centre. Participants will be asked to remove their shoes and socks during this time.
  • Introduction of the Australians Together ‘Building Confidence Workshop’, a framework that helps teachers totally rethink how they embed First Nations perspectives and their relationship with their own cultures, whilst also considering ways to make a difference. The course is built around first-hand accounts from First Nations.

INTENDED FOR:

Aboriginal Education Focus Teachers.

FACILITATORS:

  • Jade Kartanya Brook from Australians Together
  • Geoff Aufderheide, Aboriginal Education Advisor, Catholic Education SA.

FACILITATOR INFORMATION:

Jade Brook is a Nurrunga, Kaurna woman with ties to Ngarrindjeri and Barkindji who has lived in the Adelaide Hills for the past 14 years. Jade works as an Aboriginal Community Education Officer at a Hills school and also runs a consultancy service that works with local businesses to support them in how to be culturally competent and culturally safe. Jade has a full scholarship to study Aboriginal Christian Leadership through a national program run by ‘Australians Together’.

DISCLAIMER:

Our presenter advises that, for First Nations teachers and staff, there will be stories shared from those who have experienced the Stolen Generation, and this may affect some people. Jade would like to yarn with First Nations teachers and staff prior to the commencement of the workshop if possible.

AITSL Australian Professional Standards for Teachers include:

  • Standard 1: Know students and how they learn (focus area 1.4)
  • Standard 2: Know the content and how to teach it (focus area 2.4)
  • Standard 6: Engage in professional learning (focus area 6.2)

REQUIREMENT:

Participants are encouraged to bring their own device (laptop preferred) and also a pen in order to respond to some aspects of the workshop and take notes.

A workbook will be provided to each participant along with access to the 'Building Confidence Online Workshop'.

Morning Tea and Lunch will be provided. Please advise if you have dietary requirements when registering for the Network Day.
