Description
Career education during the Primary and Middle Years encourages students to explore who they are, who they could become, and be aware of possibilities in the world around them that they may not have otherwise noticed.
Catholic Education South Australia is pleased to offer schools in the Port Pirie Diocese the opportunity to teach the innovative career education program BECOME, to students in Years 5-9. This is supported by the delivery of face-to-face professional learning in Port Pirie and subsequent online support, from BECOME Education trainers in Melbourne and Sydney.
The BECOME Career Education program is an evidence-based career education program, developed by respected psychologists and career professionals, providing student agency and developing self-efficacy to help young people thrive. More information about the career education program is available here.
The workshop in Port Pirie, for Teachers and Lead Career Education Ambassadors, will provide educators with the knowledge and confidence to teach career education to students in 2024, and will include:

- gathering pre and post program data from students,
- engaging ideas and strategies for teaching career education,
- developing student agency by broadening the career aspirations of children and young people and
- deep thinking about careers and job factors, relevant for primary and middle school students.
Lead Career Ambassadors from each school will also be supported during the workshop to set-up the IT aspect of the program for their school, ensuring that their school is ready to commence career education during 2024. Lead Career Ambassador support encompasses:
