Workshop Description
We invite you to join us at the Elevate, Empower, Excel – Leading from the Middle Years Unconference, to engage in the collaborative inquiries and hands on workshops conducted by your staff, as part of the Leading from the Middle, Middle Years Network. This event offers an excellent opportunity to gain insights into your staff's learning journey and to celebrate their efforts in driving meaningful improvements and innovations in the middle years of schooling.
We are pleased to announce Leon Furze as the morning keynote speaker. Leon is a PhD student, experienced educator, consultant and educational writer. Leon has taught English, Literature and Digital Technologies in Australia and the UK for over fifteen years, and was formerly a Director of Learning and Teaching. Leon’s PhD is focused on the professional and practical implications of Generative AI for teachers. Leon is the Co-Director of Re-framing Autism and Young Change Agents.
Keynote Outline: Generative Artificial Intelligence: Practical and Ethical Approaches
This session explores the ethical complexities of generative AI, as well as practical applications for students and teachers. Generative AI is a fast-moving area which includes text, image, audio, and video generation. The new National Framework for Generative AI in Schools helps to provide some guidance, and this session supports the Framework through real-world examples.
Our closing speaker will be Maria Vieira. Maria is a Lecturer in Education Futures and PhD Candidate in STEM at the University of South Australia. In her current position, she coordinates gender equity programs in the Outreach team involving more than 500 schoolgirls in South Australia and Victoria. . She holds a Master's in Psychology of Creativity from the Autonomous University of Barcelona and is a member of C3L – Centre for Change and Complexity in Learning. Her research explores creative confidence in the context of STEM education, specifically focusing on the inclusion of more females in those fields.

But is creativity solely about thinking? In this captivating presentation, we'll delve into the vital role of creative confidence and how students' self-perception shapes their creative actions. Get ready to discover practical tips and techniques that will empower both you and your students to flex your creative muscles, equipping all of us for a more innovative future.
