CESA’s SPiCE Program offers termly SPiCE Network Meetings for playgroup facilitators. These network meetings are an opportunity to engage in Professional Development and showcase examples of best practice.

Our Term 2 SPiCE Network Meeting will focus on our SPiCE Program Community Pillar, as we will hear from Maria Taylor (Educational Consultant), who will explore ways that nature can be at the heart of connection and provide a practical demonstration of how educators and playgroup facilitators might embed Aboriginal perspectives throughout their services and programs in playful, meaningful ways.

The session is guided by Dr Tyson Yunkaporta's book, ‘Sand Talk: How Indigenous Thinking Can Change the World’ (Text Publishing, Melbourne, 2019) where he invites readers to imagine the place they call home and talks about how ‘being in profound relation to place changes everything about you – your voice, your smell, your walk, your morality.' (pg420)

Throughout the session, a focus on loose parts and natural materials will guide provocations and demonstrate how creative expression can be facilitated with simple invitations to play. This session will also showcase resources, books, routines and D.I.Y projects to bring nature play to life for early learners and their families.

  • Learn how to incorporate loose parts and artefacts into routines that support storytelling and the sharing of personal story.
  • Explore treasures from nature to consider what playgroup ‘all through the year’ could look like with resources, books and nature play ideas for all contexts.

Afternoon tea will be supplied.
