UNDERSTANDING AND SUPPORTING BEHAVIOUR MODULES

MODULE 2: POSITIVE CLASSROOM CULTURE – CHILDHOOD ADVERSITY

(repeated 3 times in term 2)

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The neurology and psychology of behaviour and learning underpin the Understanding and Supporting Behaviour Modules.  Each module is a day of professional learning and can stand alone. However, they have been designed sequentially. The modules are aimed at early careers teachers but are not limited to them. The modules will be delivered sequentially across the 4 school terms. You are encouraged to attend all 4 modules.

MODULE 2: POSITIVE CLASSROOM CULTURE – CHILDHOOD ADVERSITY (repeated 3 times in term 2)

This module is grounded in an understanding of the neuroscience of childhood development and the neuroscience of childhood adversity.  The module will explore the typical brain development of early childhood, the different types of trauma and the physiological effects of childhood adversity.  With this foundation established, the module explores the behaviours that are consistent with childhood adversity.  It will provide a framework to understand what the behaviour is communicating and appropriate response strategies.

*Please bring your laptop to the session
