Description
The Rich Mathematical Approaches through Collaborative Inquiry is aimed at leaders and teachers in Years 3,4,5 and 6. This project aims to build teacher capacity in understanding mathematical knowledge involving place value across the mathematics curriculum sub-strands of Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability. Teachers will develop a deeper understanding of the mathematical proficiencies with a focus on reasoning and problem solving through exploring pedagogical practices of using open ended tasks and defining the traits of concrete to abstract.
This project will utilise collaborative inquiry, using student case studies, to empower teachers to analyse their school data and define actions to improve outcomes. Teachers will receive in-school coaching sessions to support them in ways they are implementing these new approaches.
This project will be delivered by CESA in collaboration with the University of South Australia’s Mathematics Faculty. Throughout this project, on behalf of CESA, the University of South Australia will be conducting pre and post surveys with school leaders, participants and students. This research will help inform future directions of Mathematics teaching and learning for CESA.
CESA requires 2 to 3 teachers per school, to engage in this project.
