Description:
Catholic Education South Australia has partnered with Centre for Research in Educational and Social Inclusion (CRESI) and the University of South Australia to better understand ways schools can enhance student agency in the Middle Years.
Student agency is the ability to have impact and control over learning and lives. It encompasses notions of power and persistence that are intrinsic but also situated in structural, cultural and socioeconomic contexts. A critical component of agency is a student’s capability to communicate, collaborate and engage with learning across multiple dimensions - cognitive, procedural, affective and agentic (Cook-Slather, 2020). It is these capabilities that allow young people to form strong and enduring connections with school (Munns, 2007).
