Literacy for Learning is a 6 module course aligned to the Australian Curriculum where literacy is represented as a strand of the English curriculum and as a general capability essential for all curriculum areas. Literacy for Learning has been developed in response to the definition of literacy in the Australian Curriculum that is informed by a social view of language that considers how language works to construct meaning in different social and cultural contexts.
The course will support sites seeking a foundational understanding of the central role language plays in learning and the explicit teaching practices needed to scaffold language learning across all learning areas. Teachers will better understand, plan for and explicitly teach the language demands of their fields and will be better able to teach their students how to deal with these demands.
