Implementing defined career education and career experiences that support the wellbeing of young people in Catholic schools in South Australia is a high priority for CESA. It builds on the opportunities that schools often provide informally through guest speakers. The first phase of Ready. Set. Future. involves engaging upper primary school and middle school students in a supported Career Education program that allows them to explore careers and consider the values, capabilities and learning that might shape their own career in the future.

The BECOME Career Education program is an evidence-based approach, developed by respected career professionals Professor Jim Bright (Australian Catholic University and The University of Derby) and psychologist, Olivia Pennie. The program aligns with the Living, Learning, Leading Framework to enhance students’ self-efficacy, empowering young people to see themselves as capable learners able to explore careers and feel confident in the choices they make as they progress through their education. It supports the development of the CESA Key Capabilities so that the young people in Catholic schools can thrive.

In engaging with the BECOME Career Education program, students and teachers explore ‘big questions’ and ‘essential ideas’, which are the key components of the assessment waterfall. This learning develops research and reflective skills, whilst providing a high degree of student agency.

Please note that this session is only for schools who are Pilot Schools for the Ready. Set. Future. Project in 2022.
