The importance of numeracy as a capability to be effectively developed for all students has been highlighted as an essential part of both the SACE and the Australian Curriculum. Schools are recognising that teachers need to be supported to ensure numeracy opportunities are identified and are developed to support the understanding of the content within the different learning area.

The broad aims for the Numeracy across all Learning Areas for 2012 are to:

  • build the capacity of those involved in the network in terms of their understanding numeracy and the development of effective teaching and learning strategies in various learning areas
  • consider contemporary approaches to leading change within a school community and within numeracy
  • provide a forum to discuss and exchange strategies related to professional learning in numeracy

The proposed dates for 2012 for the network are:

Term 2:  Thursday 24 May 2012, Room 7, 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm

Term 3:  Monday 20 August 2012, Room 8, 9.00 am - 12 noon

Term 4:  Wednesday 31 October 2012, Room 7, 1.00 pm - 4.00 pm

The first meeting of the network on Thursday 24 May will cover the following:

  • exploring how numeracy is connected to NAPLAN
  • develop effective numeracy strategies to enhance teaching and learning in all learning areas
  •  formulating or continuing to work on a Numeracy Action Plan for 2012

Registrations will close on Monday, 21 May 2012.
