EAL

Teaching ESL Students in Mainstream Classroom (TESMC)

This 9 module course will be offered in Term 2 - 4 and requires a mimimum of 6 participants to proceed.


The course is:

• Relevant for all teachers of EAL and/or Indigenous students in Years 2 - 12 
• develops an understanding of the kind of support EAL students need to be successful learners
• provides strategies that teachers can use across the curriculum for effective teaching and learning
• underpins all its strategies with an understanding of the role of language in learning 
• promotes whole-school aproaches to addressing the learning needs of EAL

Module Sessions:
Module workshops are 4-7pm, fortnightly and include a range of activities:

• input from the tutor or throught DVD or text material
• discussion or other collaborative learning activities
• practical activities that are transferable to classroom contexts

Certificate: on completion of the course participants will be issued with a certificate indicating modules attended, activities and readings completed.

Accreditation: Accreditation for tertiary studies is offered for full completion of this course.

Participants are provided with course books and DVD outlining workshop notes, readings, resources, and school or classroom activities.
