Apocalypse Then and Now: Understanding the Book of Revelation (Scripture)
Presented by Rev Dr Michael Trainor
9am to 1pm - Tuesday 2nd, Wednesday 3rd & Thursday 4th October 2012
This Module will offer an intensive study of the Book of Revelation (or "Apocalypse'), one of the most interesting and yet misunderstood writings of the Second Testament. The module will focus on the culture and history of Asia Minor towards the late first century CE, and offer a social context for interpreting the Book of Revelation. Attention will also focus on the literary sources of this ingenious and mystifying work. These sources include the First Testament and mytho-poetic religious symbols of the Ancient Near East. The module will also explore the overall symbolic and literary themes, the origins and importance of apocalyptic, and the relevance of the Book of Revelation for your professional development.
