John: The Maverick Gospel (Scripture)

This Module offers an intensive study of the Gospel according to John.  The course will focus on the emergence and development of Johannine Christianity and its implications for contemporary Christianity.  Careful attention will also be paid to the historical background, sources and editing as indications of the development of the Johannine community.  The narrative development, literary techniques and theological themes in Johannine theology will also be investigated, and the evangelist's use of symbolism.  You will study the Gospel from the perspective of their professional context.  It will be important for you to read John's Gospel before the module commences.
