Grammar Bites: Evaluative Language
Thursday 4th November: 4 - 5.30pm
Intended For:
Teachers of EALD learners in Primary and Secondary years
The LEAP Levels are used to assess the English language progress of EALD learners and to identify their English language learning goals.
The LEAP Levels Targeted Strategies provide excellent ideas, but you may feel that you need to build your own knowledge a bit more in order to feel confident to teach, and model, evaluative language to express feelings, make judgements and evaluate things, as well as express degrees of obligation, probability and usuality (modality).
Therefore, in this workshop teachers will:
- Consider the language choices and function of evaluative language
- Participate in modelled and guided strategies for teaching evaluative language, and modality to learners of EALD
Main references/resources will be the LEAP Levels 7-14 and LEAP Strategies. Please bring copies of these documents to the workshop.
If you are in a country location, participation via Teams can be arranged by request; however for full engagement, attending in person is recommended.
