Intended Audience
Year 1 Teachers and Leaders of Learning new to the Phonics Screening Check

Workshop Description

The Year 1 Phonics Screening Check (PSC) is mandated in all CESA Diocesan schools in 2021, with Separately Governed Schools strongly encouraged to participate.

The PSC is a 5–7-minute assessment for children in Year 1. The check is undertaken with children 1:1 by their class teacher. It is a diagnostic tool used to provide information about how students in Term 3 of Year 1 are progressing in Phonics and Word Knowledge as per the Australian Curriculum.

To ensure high quality and consistency of the data collection:

  • Year 1 teachers and Leaders of Learning new to the PSC in 2021 will be involved in half day training on how to use and analyse the PSC. Teachers and Leaders of Learning in regional areas are invited to register their interest as below and training and venue will be advised.
  • Year 1 teachers and Leaders of Learning who have completed the training previously will nominate and attend a 1-hour webinar to ensure consistency of the data collection.
