Intended For
Teachers of EALD learners in Years Reception to Years 1-2.
The main focus will be on oral language and early/emergent writing

Rationale

The Learning English: Achievement and Proficiency (LEAP) Levels  is the tool used by teachers of EALD learners to formatively assess the Standard Australian English (SAE) proficiency of EALD students.  It is aligned with the Australian Curriculum Literacy progressions and is used to assess oral and written language from all curriculum areas.

Also, all schools that intend submitting EALD data for CESA funding allocations need to ensure that teachers who conduct EALD assessments have participated in relevant professional learning during 2021 about how to use the LEAP Levels

1 day workshop focus

  • Preparatory work for the first session will communicated to participants prior to Day 1
  • Build knowledge about the language/grammar of the LEAP Levels 1-6 language [oral and early writing]

Apply this knowledge through guided, collaborative and independent use of the LEAP Levels to assess samples of language and identify learning goals
