COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Language and Literacy Levels across the Australian Curriculum: EALD students is the tool used by teachers of EAL learners to assess and plan for their language and literacy development. The Levels provide detailed information about students' written and oral language development which can be used for assessment and programming purposes.

INTENDED FOR:
This workshop is suitable for primary and secondary teachers who wish to learn how to use the Levels to assess oral and written language as an assessment for learning tool. Also, schools that are intending to submit EAL data in 2020 need to ensure that teachers who conduct the assessments have been trained in using the Levels.

Maximum of 40 participants

PROGRAM OUTLINE:

  • An introduction to the Language and Literacy Levels and links to the Australian Curriculum
  • Learn about the functional model of language as described in the Language and Literacy Levels
  • Develop knowledge and skills for reliable and valid assessments of written and oral language
  • Build confidence to use the Levels to identify teaching and learning needs
  • Model some teaching strategies for explicitly teaching language (grammar)
  • Application to own student writing samples

Cost: no workshop fee

Catering: morning tea and lunch will be provided
