UNDERSTANDING AUTISM SPECTRUM

Two sessions:

14 August (1.00 - 4.00pm) & 23 August (9.00am - 4.00pm)

Requirements: please note in order to complete the course you must attend both sessions.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Autism spectrum is a lifelong developmental disability and students, whatever their level of functioning, may need support and adjustments in the school and classroom environments. This course aims to support teachers in making their classrooms more inclusive for all students by providing an understanding of the impact of this disability. It offers practical and achievable assessment ideas and intervention strategies to address a range of specific, identified needs.

The course equates to approximately 20 hours of professional learning, a proportion of which will be completed in participant's own time.

INTENDED FOR: Primary and Secondary teachers

AITSL AUSTRALIAN PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS INCLUDE:

Standard 1 -  Know students and how they learn (1.1, 1.2, 1.5, 1.6)
Standard 2 - Know the content and how to teach (2.3, 2.5, 2.6)
Standard 3 - Plan for and implement effective teaching and learning (3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.6)
Standard 4 - Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments (4.1)
Standard 5 - Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning (5.1, 5.2)
Standard 6 - Engage in Professional Learning (6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4)
Standard 7 - Engage Professionally with colleagues, parents/carers and the community (7.2)

Cost: No workshop fee

Requirements: personal HEADPHONES OR EARBUDS are recommended
