A network day for those schools accepted into the Online Environment Inquiry: An educational and system response to the issues facing children, young people and families in an online environment 2018

Course Description:

Day 1 & 2: 8/05/18 - 9/05/18

'It's Time we Talked: pornography, young people and Catholic Education'

  • Introducing the inquiry and expectations for engagement
  • Discussing the roles and responsibilities of Catholic educators, including parents, in the domain of human sexuality education
  • Key Partner, Maree Crabbe, providing overview of the issue of explicit material online and its impact
  • Research on pornography's prevalence, nature and impact on young people 
  • Introduction to resource 'In the Picture' (ITP) - must be purchased to participate in inquiry
  • Network schools to discuss issues and concerns about the impact of pornography in their communities
  • The Catholic context and CESA system supports in place for school communities
  • Whole school frameworks
  • Ways to engage young people
  • Teaching and learning activity samples
  • Reflection on scenarios 
Day 3: 19/06/18

Practical Implementation

  • Schools will have applied steps 1-4 of the planning process outline on p.37 of ITP manual
  • Schools will have begun the implementation phase 
  • Further developing the inquiry
  • Reflection on how their processes are presenting successes, challenges, and questions
  • Time to engage more deeply with ITP resource
  • Maree will take schools through steps for inquiry implementation and support
  • Day 4: 3/09/18
  • Sharing the Learning and What Next?
  • School Participants presenting responses, successes, challenges
  • School participants making suggestions for future work and support in MITIOG
  • School partcipants evaluating resources provided
