Composing Written Science Texts for Years 7-10

Last Day to Register: Thursday 16 November 2017

 WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

Composing Written Science Texts - Australian Curriculum: Science 7-10 is a resource to support teachers of Science and STEM in designing and embedding the text structures and grammar of Science writing into Science learning.
Science teachers are responsible for teaching the language and literacy of Science and this resource provides model texts, annotated texts, genre frameworks and grammar resources to enable students to become successful writers of Science test types (genres). It identifies the structures and grammar elements of a practical investigation report, argument, discussion, explanation, information report, extended response and a source analysis for the respective year levels. Suggested classroom activities incorporate a student-centred pedagogy, involving collaboration and provide teachers with support for analysing and deconstructing texts.
The topics are aligned to the Australian Curriculum Science content and the Australian Curriculum English Language content.
Through this workshop participants will have opportunities to examine the contents of the book and consider its use in scaffolding Science teaches to teach the language and literacy of Science.
