CESA Online Safety Education Project Information

Education sectors in all states and territories in Australia have been invited to participate in a National Partnership Project to deliver online safety education programs in school communities.

The project aims to increase the delivery of quality online safety programs that provide opportunities for quality professional learning for all members of a school community (students, educators and parents and carers) and to develop knowledge about available supports for young people to prevent and intervene if bullying, harassment and illegal activity affects their use of online platforms.

The project will support the delivery of online safety programs in schools delivered online or in a face to face mode from providers that have been certified, approved or recognised by the Children's e Safety Commissioner.

The project funded by the Commonwealth Minister for Education includes:

  • Grants of up to $4,000 for participating school communities (11 schools in each year during 2016 and 2017)
  • Participation in an online safety education program, an online safety framework or online safety professional learning
  • Participation by the school community including students, teachers, parents or carers
  • Either face to face, video conferencing or through online desktop software for 60 minutes duration.
Information regarding the accredited online safety programs and the role of the Children's e Safety Commissioner in supporting learning and responding to complaints can be found at

Priority will be given to schools where there are identified online safety issues or concerns.
Schools are encouraged to register their interest for projects within the 2016 and 2017 timeframs.
The Inclusion and Learning Team (Behaviour Education Consultant) will assist schools to locate the online safety learning within the Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum and to provide opportunities for schools to network ideas to increase student leadership within the project.

Further information will be provided to project schools at a project meeting at the Catholic Education Office, Room 8 at 2.30 - 3.30pm on 19 September, 2016.

Registration closed: 9 September 2016
