COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Australian Childhood Foundation (ACF) works with a range of health, welfare, education and legal professionals to support vulnerable, abused and traumatised children. Since 2014 CESA has been working in partnership with the ACF to promote awareness and understanding of abuse and how to support children who have experience abuse-related trauma. To this end the ACF is facilitating a professional learning workshop on the relationship between trauma and adolescent mental health.
This workshop will develop an understanding of trauma and its impact on brain development and functioning. From this basis it will examine how trauma effects adolescent brain development focusing specifically on risk taking and impulse control as part of normative development. It will then consider the mental health issues of trauma with a view to building on participant's skills in assessing trauma and methods of intervention in school settings.
The learning outcomes for this workshop are to:
Morning tea and lunch will be provided and vegetarian and gluten free options will be available. Participants with other dietary needs are welcome to bring their own meal.
