EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST IN THE MATHEMATICS COURSE
    NUMBER AND ALGEBRA UNIT

Catholic Education SA invites expressions of interest from teachers to be involved in a mathematics course. This course consists of three modules; Number & Algebra, Measurement & Geometry and, Statistics & Probability as per the Australian Curriculum. This course will focus on building and deepening teachers’ mathematical content knowledge, simultaneously building teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge. The pedagogy will be influenced by inquiry approaches, which could inform classroom practices.  

As this course focuses primarily on content, it is open to all teachers who want to further develop their own mathematical knowledge.  In the past, teachers teaching from Reception to Year 10 have participated and they have all gained a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

It is preferable that teachers undertake all three modules, however, there is the option to undertaken one or two modules only. It is an expectation that teachers attend all sessions for the module they are enrolled in. In 2016, only the module on Number and Algebra will be offered. The other two modules will be offered in 2017.

Course dates:

Time allocation: 18 hours if all 6 sessions are attended

Outcomes:

• Increased mathematical knowledge
• Deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and links between concepts
• be a more confident  and enthusiastic teacher of mathematics
• be motivated to continue the journey of lifelong learning of mathematics

Proposed Course Content

Teachers can register for the Number and Algebra module on the CESA Registration Centre http://registrationcentre.cesa.catholic.edu.au    

Registration closes for this module on Thursday 24 March 2016. Successful applicants will be notified by email shortly after the registration close date. For this module, the office will fund one and a half days TRT only.
