CESA Re-imagining Childhood 0-18

Continuity of learning 0-99

Secondary Principals in conversation with Professor Carla Rinaldi

'A person who is part of contemporary culture, who is able to question and to analyse this culture with a critical eye… An intellectually curious person who rejects a passive approach to knowledge and prefers to construct knowledge together with others rather than simply to "consume" it.'

Professor Carla Rinaldi, 2005

This is an opportunity to begin a dialogue with Professor Rinaldi, with each other and in the context of the CESA Strategy Leading Catholic Education to New Levels of Excellence to further consider what meaning might continuity of learning have for Catholic schools in South Australia.

We have asked Professor Rinaldi to work with Secondary Principals in clarifying the educational principles of Reggio Emilia and how this connects to our sector’s focus on re-imagining childhood. To guide our thinking we have proposed the following questions for discussion:

  • To what extent is learning in our secondary schools a mutual endeavour for students and teachers?
  • How do students and teachers learn from each other?
  • How does the learning environment enable students to initiate their learning challenges?
  • How can we broaden the concept of school as a place of research for re-imagining?
