Research on effective schooling tells us that when teachers pay professional attention to colleagues, there is likely to be more learning pay-off for their students. A collaborative learning-oriented culture among teachers has more impact on student outcomes than resource-rich schools where teachers work in isolation – ‘alone together’ – in relation to each other. ( Anrig, G. 2013)
The Literacy, Languages and Learning Team invites school leaders and teacher leaders (including Key Literacy Teachers) to participate in a day of professional learning with Professor Erica Mc William and Peter Taylor. Respected pioneers in the fields of personally significant learning and the role of lead learner at the centre of a re-professionalising process, they will help us to explore the relevance of this to our work with schools.
This workshop is part of a new suite of professional learning Leading Literacy Learning in Schools, replacing the former Key Literacy Teacher days.
Given the broader relevance to leading and learning in schools, we also invite other lead teachers and CESA curriculum and learning consultants to the session on Friday 12th June with Erica and Peter.
The day will be an opportunity to engage with and discuss strategies and processes for leading effective improvement and change in schools to bring about new structures, practices and understandings to support continuous improvement and professional learning. Erica and Peter will examine concepts of personally significant learning, effective pedagogical change and school culture, change processes within schools, evidence-based practices and continuous improvement. The day is designed to assist leaders to reflect on continuous improvement in their schools.
As this work with Erica and Peter also launches the Leading Literacy Learning in Schools course for principals and KLTs, Literacy and learning will be a significant focus of the day.
