Mathematics Course
Statistics & Probability Unit
The Mathematics course consists of three units:
- Statistics & Probability will be run in Terms 2 and 3, 2015
- Measurement & Geometry will run in Terms 3 and 4, 2015
- Number & Algebra will be run in 2016
The course is designed to build on teachers’ current mathematical understanding. It will predominately use an inquiry approach to the learning of mathematics.
Teachers can opt to do one or two units. It is however, preferable that they undertake all 3 units. Registration is required for each of the three Unit.
INTENDED FOR:
Teachers from Reception to Year 10 who want to further their own mathematical knowledge
OUTCOMES
- be a more confident and enthusiastic mathematics teacher
- be more numerate citizens and recognise and develop numeracy across other learning areas to enrich learning for students
- be motivated to continue the journey of lifelong learning of mathematics
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Unit: Statistics & Probability
Probability
- Experimental probability
- Theoretical probability
- Using percentages to describe probability
Representation and interpretation of data
Measure of central tendency
Methods of representing data:
- Stem and leaf plots
- Box and whisker plots
- Histograms and frequency tables
- Linear regression
- Distribution
